This week we are looking at MOOCS (MOOCs—massive open online courses).

The concept of MOOCs has been around for many years but it was Dave Cormier, an educational activist, researcher, online community advocate and the Project Lead for Student Relations Management at the University of Prince Edward Island. He used the term “MOOC” to describe the Connectivism and Connective Knowledge course delivered by George Siemens and Stephen Downes in 2008. Over 2000 people around the world participated in this course online, for free.

So in short,  a MOOC is a massive open online course.

And it always will be.

There is always the question of developing vs buying online elearning courses.  My rule of thumb is ” horses for courses” -MOOCs are great for personal develpment of staff and if you are willing to put in the time you are sure to find a MOOC to meet your particular learning need.

Here is a list of the most recent MOOC poviders we found in our onlie search. I have put this into a Mindjet Mindmanager 18 HTML 5 map for sharing.

It is not an exhaustive list as new MOOC providers come online all the time but it does provide a quick and easy access list to the most used /known MOOC providers.

TIP: If you want a quick access link ot this list drag and drop the MOOC list URL to your desktop.

HERE IS A YOUTUBE EXPLANATION TO GET YOU STARTED.

Let me know if you would like us to develop something more specific for your Docebo use. API development options are available as well.

Next week I am heading off to Milan,  so we will pick up our elearning blog  the week following the 20th of November.
